The cold is letting up0

The cold is beginning to let up, and almost immediately the calendar losing empty space. Monday is the bar-with-friends evening. Tuesdays is racquetball (rocketball), Wednesdays is rollerblading at the Metrodome, Thursdays is rocketball again, and Friday is the only week day where there is nothing in particular planned. I guess that is flight night, or the night where I just waste gas driving all over the metro all evening. If 93 octane is my combustible heroin, cars are our big needles. This 300-hp affront to all that is good and decent and respectable, this angry piece of rubber and aluminum turns gasoline directly into moments of teary bliss. (~Dan Neil)
The weekends have been pretty busy too lately – Saturdays there is usually a birthday party, a DJ concert, a roller derby or something going on. Sundays are pretty quiet since football is done now.
Tomorrow I am getting a membership at Lifetime Fitness, because lately we haven’t been able to get on the rocketball court ever and our treadmills are wearing out pretty fast. A membership costs about $20 in the end, and there are a lot of opportunities to meet new people, which is always welcome. So then will probably be the return of the daily 6:30am run.
Spring will soon be here, and with it will come softball season – I’m already committed to being on 2-3 teams. Also, the outdoor pool will be opening up – and so will the ritual 21:00 vodka tonic + hot tub, and the book + sake til dusk.
My biggest goal for this warm season is to have enough material to have a coffee table photo book printed. Even if it’s just one for me. The plan is to use GPS tech along with video and still cameras and various tactical gear to go urban exploring. The chosen subject is the oft-overlooked of Minneapolis. The abandoned buildings, and the vantages that aren’t commonly observed. I’ve been in this city for a few years, but never have really owned it. I suppose this is my way of doing that.
So it’s already shaping up to be a fantastic season – I just can’t wait to get it rolling!
